DAF DISCUSSIONS - KIDUSHIN 30

Dr. Isaac Betech Nissan asked:

Dear Rab Kornfeld hy"v, I would like to know if you have an explanation on Chetzian shel pesukim? Yashar Koyach!

Thank you very much.

The Kollel replies:

In our Yosef Da'as you will find the following references:

Dr. Isaac Betech Nissan asked:

>> I would like to know if you have an explanation on Chetzian shel pesukim?<<

Thank you very much for your prompt answer. I do not have all the sources you quoted, part of them I already know them. Do you think one of the sources gives a clear understandable answer that fit with our present day count of pesukim?

Sorry for bothering you again.

PS Where I can find the book or article (Yosef Da'as) that you quote?

Thank you very much.

Dr. Isaac Betech Nissan (T.O.V.), Mexico City, MEXICO

The Kollel replies:

You will have to judge that for yourself, I'm afraid.

By the way, with regard to the Yeser Alav/Chaser Mimenu Gemara, I heard an additional source from Rav Shnayer Leiman (of N.Y.). He found an old print of the Vilna Ga'on's footnote on that Gemara, which reads somewhat differently from the printed one. I believe the Girsa he found was, "Yeser Alav Tehilim Chaser Daniel v' Divrei ha'Yamim Shemonah" (Take out the words "Shemonah Chaser Mimenu"). Actually, the figure produced by subtracting the amount of Pesukim in Divrei Hayamim and Daniel from the number of Pesukim in Tehilim is not eight more than the number of verses in the Torah. It is 92 more. Either we will have to be Gores "i>Meah Chaser* Shemonah" (my suggestion, according to the Gaon), or else we will have to conclude that if the count of verses in the Torah can be too many by 35, due to different ways of splitting the verses, then the count of Pesukim in Tehilim can easily be too little by 50 or so (Rav Leiman's suggestion).

Yosef Da'as on Kidushin is available for purchase from our site, either in electronic format or printed format. See http://www.dafyomi.co.il/orders/ydpricing.htm .

Dr. Isaac Betech Nissan writes:

Dear Rab Kornfeld hy"v Yashar Koyach for your interest and help.

Meanwhile I think the best answer (at least for presenting it to chilonim) is Rab Zilver´s answer published in an article in the periodical "Moriah." (Moriah, Elul 5758, numbers 1-2.)

"After research and examination, I think that it can be said the intention was to verses in which larger letters appear. As already brought above, there are two alternatives in this matter. According to our version of the Torah scrolls there are nine such verses and according to the version of Rabbi Yosef Tuv Elem there are 23 such verses. According to both versions v'hitgalach is the middle verse."

If you have anything else on this subject, I will appreciate your cooperation. Behatzlacha

Dr. Isaac Betech Nissan (T.O.V.), Mexico City, MEXICO

The Kollel replies:

Yes, that is a very straightforward answer. In fact, Rabbi Zilber goes on to explain all of the statements of the Gemara there in a similar manner.

Be well,

Mordecai Kornfeld
