DAF DISCUSSIONS - ZEVACHIM 24

Aurel Littmann asked:

is a lefty cohen--posul to do avodah?

The Kollel replies:

The Gemara in Bechorot 45b teaches that he may not, since it is a type of "Mum." (It is not a real Mum which disqualifies Avodah b'Di'eved, but it is a Mum known as "Eino Shaveh b'Zar'o Shel Aharon," which is disqualified l'Chatchilah.)

As an interesting note, a grandson of the Chafetz Chayim once heard someone telling how the Chafetz Chayim had a ramp built and practiced running up and down it, in the hope that he would be well-practiced when the Beis ha'Mikdash would be built. The grandson commented that the story could not possibly be true; the Chafetz Chayim was a lefty, and would be disqualified for performing Avodah in the Mikdash!
