Why does the gemora leave out the letter vuv from the word Ubeshochbicha Uvikumecha?
SG, New York - USA
The Gemara often omits the letter "Vav" from the beginning of the Pasuk or word that it is quoting for a Derashah. It seems to be merely the style of the Gemara, and we are not aware of any deeper implications. It could be that it omits the letter Vav in order to prevent us from making a mistake and thinking that the Derashah is from the letter Vav (as many Derashos are based on an extra Vav).

The gemora may have omitted the Vav of beshochbicha but not the vav of uvikumecha to emphasize that Kri'as Sh'ma is obligatory both at night AND the morning. The Vav of beshochbicha would diminish this.
