If, as the previous Pasuk relates, the people now knew that a person can survive after hearing the Voice of Hashem, why are they afraid that, if Hashem continues to speak with them they will die?

1.

Oznayim la'Torah #1: This supports the Midrash that, after each Dibur their Neshamos left them and Hashem performed Techi'as ha'Meisim and revived them. And their fear was based on the maxim 'Ein Somchin al ha'Nes'.

2.

Oznayim la'Torah: Seeing as the fire was created from the Voice of Hashem, 1 it became constantly more powerful together with the Voice. Consequently, the people were afraid that, even if they were able to survive the fire that accompanied the first two (or Aseres ha) Dibros, who knows whether they would be able to survive the following eight Dibros (or the rest of the Torah!

Oznayim la'Torah: As the Pasuk writes in Tehilim, 29:7 "Kol Hashem Chotzev Lahavos Eish".
