QUESTIONS ON RASHI

2)

Rashi writes that she pays the value of his embarrassment. How do we know that it does not mean literally that we cut off her hand?

1.

Rashi: Because we learn via a Gezeirah Shavah "Lo Sachos" "Lo Sachos" from Eidim Zomemin in Parshas Shoftim 19:13, that it means money.

2.

Ba'al ha'Turim: We learn from "Lo Yih'yeh beKischa" in the next Pasuk (which means a money-purse) that the Torah means money and cannot be tken literally.
