What is the meaning of "u'Farsu ha'Simlah"?

Rashi (from the Sifri): It means that they clarify the matter like a new garment. 1

Ramban, Rashbam 2 , Targum Onkelos and Targum Yonasan: It means literally that they spread out the cloth (which they took from the witnesses - Ramban 3 ) that contained the stain of her virgin blood.

Why does the Torah write "Velakchu ... es ha'Ish" and not "Velakchu oso"?

Since it is the father who speaks ("es Biti Nasati ... "), why does the mother also spread out the garment?

Ramban: Because it was generally the women who dealt with the cloth and who were more expert in matters concerning the blood.
