1)

Why does the Torah insert "Da'ah" which it omitted in Shemini, 11:14?

1.

Rashi: In fact, it is synonymous with "Ra'ah" and with "Ayah" 1 all of which are mentioned here. 2

1

Hadar Zekenim: And the Torah did not list both Ra'ah and Da'ah in Shemini, to avoid the assumption that they are two different species.

2

Refer to 14:13:1.1:1 and note. See also Torah Temimah, citing Chulin, 63b.

2)

What is the significance of the name 'Ra'ah"?

1.

Rashi: It is so-called because it sees far. 1

1

Rashi: As the Pasuk writes in Iyov, 28:7. Sifsei Chachamim citing Chulin 63b: From Bavel, it can see a Neveilah in Eretz Yisrael. Refer to Vayikra 11:14:151:1.

3)

Why does a Tamei species of bird the Torah merit such far-vision?

1.

Oznayim la'Torah: Based on the Arizal, who states that a person who gazes at Arayos is destined to come down in the form of a Ra'ah, it is his punishment, inasmuch as it spots a carcass in a distant land, and flies there in order to retrieve it, but by the time it gets there another animal of prey has eaten it - and it transpires that he benefiited from it with his eyes only, similar to the sin for which he was forced to return to earth. 1

1

See Oznayim la'Torah, who fits all three names into this theme.

4)

Seeing as "Ra'ah", "Ayah" and "Dayah" are one and the same, why does the Torah list all three names?

1.

Rashi: So that, if one tells someone that the bird that he is about to eat is a Ra'ah and is Tamei, he will not be able to answer that it is an Ayah or a Dayah, and is permitted. 1
