What is the meaning of "Vateragnu"?

Rashi: It means 'And you spoke Lashon ha'Ra". 1

Shevu'os, 47b: It is the acronym of 'Tartem u'Genisem 'You spied the land and disgraced the tent of Hashem (who rested His Shechinah among you).

Why does the Torah insert the word "va'Teragnu be'Ohaleichem"?

Oznayim la'Torah: Because most of the grumbling on that fateful night took place in their private tents. 1

Targum Yonasan: Because they held their sons and daughters close to their bosoms and told them how tomorrow they were all destined to be killed.

Seeing as Hashem loves Yisrael, why did the people claim that He took them out of Egypt because He hated them?

Rashi: They claimed that Hashem hated them because they hated Hashem - and, as the saying goes 'What you think about your friend, you assume that he thinks about you'!

What did they claim Hashem had done to bear out their complaint?

1.

Rashi: They claimed 1 that Hashem took them out of Egypt, a land which is well-irrigated - by the water of the Nile which overflows and waters the fields, to give them Eretz Yisrael - which requires watering manually. 2

Rashi: This can be compared to a man who had two fields ... he gave the irrigated field to the sons whom he loved, and the one that required watering, to the son whom he hated.
