Seeing as, in the desert, they all encamped together (See Oznayim la'Torah) why did some of the B'nei Peretz - Chetzron and Chamul - split into separate families?

Oznayim la'Torah: Perhaps it is because Chetzron and Chamul were particularly wise, G-d-fearing and men of valor, and their children wanted to to be MIsyaches after them. 1
