What are the implications of "ve'El Pesach Ohel Mo'ed Lo Yevi'enu"?

1.

Zevachim 109a: It incorporates whatever is eligible to be go on the Mizbe'ach 1 (for example the Kometz, the Levonah of a Minchas Nedavah, the Ketores and the Minchas Kohanim (which is completely burnt - Torah Temmah). 2

1

Even Bedieved. See Torah Temimmah, not 37.

2

See Torah Temimah, note 37, for more examples.

2)

What are the implications of "Lo Yevi'enu" (singular)?

1.

Zevachim, 107a: It implies that one is Chayav if he brings just an Olah or just a Shelamim (and not necessarily both)

3)

What are the implications of "Lo La'asos Oso" (See Torah Temimah, note 39)?

1.

Zevachim, 107a: It precludes what one brings Chaser (an animal minus a limb or a Kometz of Minchah less than a k'Zayis - Torah Temimah).

4)

Why does the Torah insert the (otherwise superfluous) word "La'asos oso la'Hashem"?

1.

Zevachim, 108a: To teach us that if one brings it outside the Azarah in the name of a Hedyot (to Avodah Zarah) he is not Chayav for Ha'ala'as Chutz. 1

1

See Torah Temimah, note 40.

5)

What are the implications of "v'Nichras"?

1.

Rashi: It implies that his children will be cut-off and that he will die prematurely.

2.

Ramban (18:29): There are three levels of Kareis: 1. A Tzadik (with majority Mitzvos) who eats Cheilev or Dam will die before the age of sixty, but his Soul will go to Olam ha'Ba; 1 2. If, in addition to eating Cheilev or Dam, he has more Aveiros than Mitzvos, then, he may well live to a ripe old age, but his Soul will be banished from the World of Neshamos; 2 3. Kareis that one receives for Avodah-Zarah and Megadef (someone who curses Hashem, Kevayachol), 3 in which case, one loses one's portion in both worlds. 4 And it is only where the Torah writes Ariri that a Chayav Kareis will die childless. 5

1

The Torah describes this as "v'Nichras ha'Ish ha'Hu" (17:4:9 [Ramban]).

2

Ramban: This the Torah describes as "v'Nichresah ha'Nefesh ha'Hi mi'Lfanai" (22:3) See Ramban DH 'va'Asher, citing Rosh ha'Shanah 17a.

3

About which the Torah writes "Hikareis Tikareis ha'Nefesh ha'Hi Avonah bah" (Bamidbar 15:31).

4

As the Gemara expounds in Shevu'os, 13a.

5

Though it may well be that we learn all Arayos from Eishes Achiv, where the Torah writes it explicitly (20:21 [Ramban]).

QUESTIONS ON RASHI

6)

Rashi writes that Kares entails that his children and his days will be cut-off. In Semachos (3:10) it asks how this applies to an old person. It should ask also about one who has no children!

1.

Moshav Zekenim (4): Kares applies only to the person himself. A proof is Rav Yosef; he made a party when he turned 60, for he was not punished with Kares. 1

1

How does this disprove Rashi? If Kares entails both punishments, Rav Yosef properly celebrated! (PF)
