Who are "Bnei Ish"?

1.

Rashi: They are the sons of Avraham, Yitzchak and Yakov, who were called Ish. It says about Avraham "Hashev Eshes ha'Ish" (Bereishis 20:7), about Yitzchak "Mi ha'Ish ha'Lazeh" (ibid., 24:65) and about Yakov "Ish Tam" (25:27).

2.

Radak: They are the Gedolei Yisrael who were with Avshalom. Similarly, "Gam Bnei Adam Gam Bnei Ish" (49:3) - Bnei Adam are the masses, and Bnei Ish are the Gedolim. It says also "ha'Lo Ish Atah u'Mi Chamocha b'Yisrael" (Shmuel I, 26:15), "Gid'on ben Yo'ash Ish Yisrael" (Shoftim 7:14).

3.

Malbim: David addresses the scoffers who said that the famine was due to David's sin. You are Bnei Ish. Your way is opposite Hashem's way!

What is the meaning of "Ad Meh Chevodi li'Chlimah"?

1.

Rashi: Until when will you disgrace me?! You do not call me by my name, rather, "Ra'isi Es Ben Yishai", "Mi David u'Mi Ven Yishai", "bi'Chras Bni Im Ben Yishai", "Ki Vocher Atah l'Ven Yishai" (Shmuel I, 22:9, 25:10, 22:8, 20:30)! 1

2.

Radak #1: Kevodi is my Nefesh, like in 3:3 "Rabim Omrim l'Nafshi."

3.

Radak #2: I am king, and you disgrace me and make me flee from my kingship.

4.

Malbim: You strive so much to disgrace my honor. You find a Davar Rik without substance, and make it a major matter to degrade me. If you do not find even a Davar Rik, you invent a false matter and pretext.

1

We find that Zimri and others who scoffed at Moshe called him 'Ben Amram', and so Kalev called him when he wanted people to think that he will debase him (Sanhedrin 89a, Rashi (Devarim 1:12 and Bamidbar 13:30, citing Sifri Devarim 12 and Sotah 35a). He was called so also when they admired him, (Rashi Shemos 14:4 citing Mechilta Beshalach 1) and even Hashem called him so (Shabbos 89a)! (PF)

3)

What is the meaning of "Te'ehavun Rik"?

1.

Radak: [You love something empty,] that will not endure, i.e. Avshalom's kingship.

4)

Why does it say "Tevakshu Chazav"?

1.

Rashi: You pursue lies, like the Zifim, who slandered me, and they showed me as if they were b'Shalom with me - "ha'Lo David Mistater Imanu... b'Giv'as ha'Chachilah" (Shmuel I, 23:19) and many such cases.

2.

Radak: Chazav is what does not last, like "Asher Lo Yechazevu Meimav" (Yeshayah 58:11).
