Did Hashem speak to Koresh?

1.

Radak: This is Ba'avur (for the sake of) Koresh.

2.

Malbim: Miracles occur in two ways. (a) Overriding laws of nature. (b) Overriding free choice. Hashem reverses the hearts of leaders to do His will. This is a more difficult miracle (even though people do not consider it such a miracle), for free choice is stronger than natural law. I will force Koresh to do My will.

What is "Ro'i"?

1.

Rashi: My king.

2.

Radak: He is My shepherd, to conduct My flock (Yisrael).

3)

What is Hashem's desire?

1.

Radak: For Bavel (to destroy) it and Yerushalayim (to rebuild it).

2.

Malbim: "Yerushalayim will be built and the Heichal will be founded."

4)

Why does it say "Tivased"?

1.

Radak #1: Here Heichal is feminine. Sometimes it is masculine - "v'Heichal Hashem Lo Yisad" (Ezra 3:6).

2.

Radak #2: The Tov is not the feminine, rather, second person conjugation. It says Tivased, for in the days of Koresh they made only the Yesod (foundation). Amonim ceased the work, and it was Batel until the second year of Daryavesh.

3.

Malbim: Only the foundation is attributed to Koresh. The entire building is attributed to Hashem - "v'Charvoseha Akomem" (26).
