What is "Shoresh Yishai"?

Radak, Malbim: It is Melech ha'Mashi'ach, who comes from Shoresh Yishai - "v'Netzer mi'Sharashav Yifreh" (1). Yishai is the root. Targum Yonasan is 'the son of the son of Yishai.'

What is the meaning of "Asher Omed"?

Radak: He will stand on that day, of the gathering of exiles.

What is "l'Nes Amim"?

Rashi: Nations will raise a flag to gather to him.

Radak: He will be to all nations like a flag in an army - all follow the flag bearer. So all nations will seek Mashi'ach and go after him to do what he commands. All will heed him. Therefore, he will have honor and rest; they will not make war with him. All nations will honor and serve him 1 .

Malbim: When he is first revealed, all nations will raise a flag to gather to fight him, in the war of Gog and Magog.

Malbim: Then, all nations will seek him, for they will realize that he is the true redeemer.

Why does it say "v'Haysah Menuchaso Kavod"?

Malbim: His serenity will not be like that of a king who is not esteemed; others do not regard him to fight him. Just the contrary, initially all will gather against him! His serenity will be afterwards.
