What is the meaning of "Mah li'Ydidi b'Veisi"?

1.

Rashi: Why should My treasured nation still come in My house?

2.

Radak: Yirmeyah called Hashem Yedidi, for he loved Him. What will He do further in my house, i.e. Beis ha'Mikdash, to make His Shechinah dwell there? He says in my house, just like he said li'Ydidi; he is the Navi's beloved, but not [Yisrael's] beloved. Also the Beis ha'Mikdash is the Navi's house, but not their house.

3.

Radak citing Targum Yonasan: The nation that used to be dear in front of me, abandoned Avodas Beis ha'Mikdash.

4.

Radak citing Menachos 53b: When the Beis ha'Mikdash was destroyed, Hashem found Avraham in the Beis ha'Mikdash, and asked about why he is there. He said, I came to pray for my children! Hashem said, they sinned and were exiled. Perhaps they were b'Shogeg! "Asosah ha'Mezimasah" (they were Mezidim). Perhaps the minority sinned! "Ha'Rabim." The merit of circumcision should have saved them! "U'Vesar Kodesh Ya'avru me'Alayich." Perhaps had You delayed the exile, they would have repented! "Ki Ra'asechi Az Ta'alozi." (They rejoiced to sin. They would not have repented.) 1

5.

Malbim: Hashem said to Yirmeyah, I told you not to pray for them. Why did you come to My house to pray for them and offer Korbanos for them?

1

Menachos 53b: Avraham asked, perhaps nothing will save them! A Bas Kol said "Zayis Ra'anan... Kara Hashem Shmech" (verse 16). Just like the greatness of olive trees is in the end (Rashi there - after many years, they bear fruit. Alternatively, no olives ripen early. All ripen at the end), also the greatness of Yisrael is in the end. (They will repent in the days of Moshi'ach.)

2)

What is "Asosah ha'Mezimasah ha'Rabim"?

1.

Rashi: It is to do its plot - sinners' counsel.

2.

Radak: This is like Yisrael makes its abomination numerous, i.e. many gods - "Mispar Arecha Hayu Elohecha Yehudah" (verse 13). Since they abandoned the one G-d and made manhy [gods] its evil counsel and served them, what will they do further in My house? 1

3.

Malbim: Keneses Yisrael plots much evil and great abominations. How can you pray for them?

1

Radak: The suffix Hei in ha'Mezimasah is extra, to strengthen the matter. The same applies to "Yeshu'asah" (Yonah 2:10), "Ezrasah" (Tehilim 44:27).

3)

What is the meaning of "u'Vesar Kodesh Ya'avru me'Alayich"?

1.

Rashi: Even Milah you nullified from your flesh - through it you were sanctified to Me.

2.

Radak #1: He asks Keneses Yisrael - you offer Korbanos to your many gods. Kodesh meat, of Hashem's Mizbe'ach, passes from you, as if you are not obligated to do (offer) them.

3.

Radak #2: U'Vesar Kodesh is like "v'Anshei Kodesh" (Shemos 22:30), like "Yavo Kol Basar Lehishtachavos" (Yeshayah 66:23), i.e. people; the Chasidim ceased among you. Therefore, you do evils.

4.

Malbim: Hashem address Keneses Yisrael - via bringing Kodesh meat, i.e. Korbanos, does this remove your abominations?! You do not repent when bringing them!

4)

What is the meaning of "Ki Ra'asechi Az Ta'alozi"?

1.

Rashi: When you transgress, you rejoice 1 . Radak - you feel no shame. The suffix Yud in Ra'asechi is extra, like "Ne'urachi", "Tachalu'aichi" (Tehilim 103:5, 3).

1

Malbim: You do not rejoice on bringing the Korban, only on the evil that you do. And after the Korban, you are happy to sin again!
