INHERITING A WIFE AND GRANDFATHER (Yerushalmi Halachah 1 Daf 22a)

(a)

R. Yitzchak imagined he could find the source of the law that a husband inherits his wife, but he did not find it.

(b)

He related a second law. The Torah (Bamidbar 27:8) instructs that 'a son' inherits his father. What is the source for a son's son, a son's daughter and a son's daughter's son? The pasuk teaches, "son" of any sort. (Note: These next three entries follow the original text, known as the Askorial, brought by the Nesivos Yerushalayim and others.)

1.

The Torah (Bamidbar 27:9) teaches that 'a daughter' inherits her father. What is the source for a daughter's daughter, a daughter's son and a daughter's son's daughter? The pasuk teaches, "daughter" of any sort.

2.

The Torah (Bamidbar 27:10) teaches that brothers of the deceased inherit before the deceased man's uncles. What is the source to say that brothers' sons, brothers' daughters and brothers' daughters' sons precede the deceased man's uncles? The pasuk teaches "brothers" of any sort.
