12TH CYCLE DEDICATIONS:

PESACHIM 12-15 - Two weeks of study material have been dedicated by Mrs. Estanne Abraham Fawer to honor the sixth Yahrzeit of her father, Reb Mordechai ben Eliezer Zvi (Rebbi Morton Weiner) Z'L, who passed away 18 Teves 5760. May the merit of supporting and advancing Dafyomi study, which was so important to him, during the weeks of his Yahrzeit serve as an Iluy for his Neshamah.

7)[line 1]הפיגולPIGUL

)a) If one slaughters a sacrifice with the intention to offer or eat it after the time within which it must be offered or eaten, it is disqualified. Such a Korban may not be eaten, as the verse in Vayikra (7:18) states, "v'Im He'achol Ye'achel mi'Besar Zevach Shelamav ba'Yom ha'Shelishi Lo Yeratzeh, ha'Makriv Oso Lo Yechashev Lo, Pigul Yiheyeh" - "If [the person offering the Korban plans] to eat it on the third day, [the sacrifice] will not be accepted. It is considered Pigul (putrid, rejected) and it will not be counted in his favor."

)b) If a person eats Pigul intentionally he is Chayav Kares; if he eats it unintentionally he must bring a Korban Chatas. (Sefer ha'Chinuch Mitzvah 144)

8)[line 1]והנותרNOSAR

)a) Any meat of a Korban which remains after the time in which it may be eaten must be burned, as it states in Vayikra (19:6) "b'Yom Zivchachem Ye'achel umi'Macharas, veha'Nosar Ad Yom ha'Shelishi ba'Esh Yisaref" - "It shall be eaten on the day that you slaughter it and on the next, and that which remains until the third day shall be burned in fire."

)b) If someone eats Nosar intentionally he is Chayav Kares, as it states (ibid. 19:8) "... v'Ochlav Avono Yisa... v'Nichresah ha'Nefesh ha'Hi me'Ameha" - "... and one who eats it shall bear his sin... and that soul will be cut off from its nation." If he eats it unintentionally, he must bring a Korban Chatas. (Sefer ha'Chinuch Mitzvah 215)

9)[line 1]הפיגול והנותר והטמאHA'PIGUL VEHA'NOSAR VEHA'TAMEI- Pigul and Nosar (which are not Tamei) and Tamei

10)[line 6]לאו אדעתיהLAV A'DA'ATEI- he (Rebbi Yosi) did not realize (which opinion Rebbi Meir was referring to(

11)[line 13]הפסד דעציםHEFSED D'EITZIM- the loss of the [extra amount of] wood [necessary to make two separate fires]

14)[line 29]שעיפשהSHE'IPSHAH- that became moldy

15)[line 32]אי הכי מאי מודהIY HACHI MAI MODEH- if so (that Rebbi Meir is inferring from the statement of Rebbi Chanina Segan ha'Kohanim), what does Rebbi Yosi's statement, "Modim Rebbi Eliezer v'Rebbi Yehoshua," have to do with Rebbi Meir's proof? (This question of the Gemara - as well as the following one - is not related to the point raised by Rebbi Yochanan regarding burning Terumah Tehorah during the seventh hour. Rather, it is a general question how anyone who maintains that Rebbi Meir of our Mishnah is proving his point from Rebbi Chanina Segan ha'Kohanim's testimony. In fact, this is the Gemara's very proof ("Deika Nami," 15a) in favor of who maintained earlier that Rebbi Meir must not be proving his point from Rebbi Chanina Segan ha'Kohanim.
