CHULIN 78 (8 Adar I) - dedicated in honor of the Yahrzeit of Sarah bas Baruch Hersh Rosenbaum, who passed away on 8 Adar I 5776, by her husband Zev Dov Rosenbaum.

SUMMARY

1. One who is Tamei with Tzara'as must announce his Tum'ah so that the public will pray from him.

2. The prohibition against slaughtering a mother animal and its child on the same day applies to Chulin and Kodshim, in Eretz Yisrael and in Chutz la'Aretz, when the Beis ha'Mikdash was standing and nowadays.

3. A hybrid may not be brought as a Korban, but the prohibition against slaughtering a mother and its son on the same day applies to a hybrid and to a Koy.

4. One who curses either his father or his mother is Chayav Misah.

5. The prohibition against slaughtering a mother animal and its child on the same day applies only to the mother and not to the father, according to the Tana Kama. Chananyah disagrees.

A BIT MORE

1. Anyone who is in distress should publicize his distress so that people will pray for him.

2. The prohibition applies whether the mother is slaughtered first or the son is slaughtered first.

3. A Koy is a Safek Behemah and Safek Chayah.

4. It is not necessary to curse both of them in order to be Chayav Misah, because the word "Kelalah" is juxtaposed with both the word "father" and "mother" in the Torah, according to Rebbi Yoshiyah. Rebbi Yonasan maintains that even if the word "Kelalah" would have appeared once in the Torah, there would have been a Chiyuv for cursing one parent without the other, because the verse does not say "Yachdav."

5. This prohibition is derived from the prohibition against taking a mother bird hovering over her young, which applies only to the mother and not to the father.
