MENACHOS 97 - dedicated by Mrs. Rita Grunberger of Queens, N.Y., in loving memory of her husband, Reb Yitzchok Yakov ben Eliyahu Grunberger. Irving Grunberger helped many people quietly in an unassuming manner and he is dearly missed by all who knew him. His Yahrzeit is 10 Sivan.

SUMMARY

1. The Tum'ah status of a plated utensil is determined by its plating.

2. There is a disagreement about whether the Tum'ah status of very select wood is also determined by the plating.

3. When the Beis ha'Mikdash stood, the Mizbe'ach atoned for one's Aveiros. Now, a person's table atones for his Aveiros.

4. Removing and inserting the Kanim between the breads of the Lechem ha'Panim may not be done on Shabbos. Any Melachah which could be done on Erev Shabbos may not be done on Shabbos.

5. Three Kanim are placed between the breads on both sides of the Shulchan. Only two Kanim are placed between the top two breads, because they support only one bread.

6. Rebbi Meir maintains that the Amah used for the measure in the Beis ha'Mikdash was six Tefachim, except for the Amah of the Yesod, Sovev, Keranos, and the Amah by Amah of the Mizbe'ach ha'Zahav.

7. Rebbi Meir maintains that the Amah used for the Binyan of the Beis ha'Mikdash was six Tefachim, while the Amah used for the Kelim of the Beis ha'Mikdash was five Tefachim.

8. The Kohen who brought the Olas ha'Of ascended the ramp of the Mizbe'ach, turned towards the southeastern corner of the Mizbe'ach, and performed the Melikah. He then pressed the blood of the Of onto the wall of the Mizbe'ach.

9. The Ma'arachah of the Mizbe'ach was 24 by 24 Amos.

10. The Azarah together with the Ulam, Heichal, and Kodesh ha'Kodashim was 197 Amos by 135 Amos.

A BIT MORE

1. Even if the plating is not nailed on, or the rim is not plated, the Tum'ah status of the utensil is determined by the status of the plating.

2. Reish Lakish maintains that very select wood is not Batel to the plating. Rebbi Yochanan disagrees.

3. Sharing food with the poor atones for one's Aveiros.

4. The Kanim were inserted between the breads in order to make space for the circulation of air. Since the breads would not become stale if the Kanim would be removed for a short time, it was forbidden to handle the Kanim on Shabbos.

5. There were 28 Kanim altogether. The Kanim were removed on Erev Shabbos from between the breads and placed along the length of the Shulchan. On Motza'i Shabbos, they were placed between the new breads that were placed on the Shulchan on Shabbos.

6. The Mizbe'ach was 32 by 32 Amos at its base. It narrowed by an Amah on each side by the Yesod, and it narrowed another Amah on each side by the Sovev. The Amah from the Mizbe'ach until the Yesod was an Amah of five Tefachim. The Amah that narrowed by the Sovev and the Keranos was also an Amah of five Tefachim. However, all other Amos in the Beis ha'Mikdash were six Tefachim, except for the Amah by Amah of the Mizbe'ach ha'Zahav in the Heichal.

7. The Amah used for the wall of the Beis ha'Mikdash and for the Mizbe'ach ha'Olah was six Tefachim, while the Amah used for the Aron, Shulchan, and Menorah was five Tefachim, according to Rebbi Yehudah.

8. The Olas ha'Of was offered on the upper half of the Mizbe'ach, above the Chut ha'Sikra which was one Amah below the Sovev. Therefore, the blood of the Olas ha'Of was pressed onto the Mizbe'ach one Amah below the feet of the Kohen.

9. There was a space of an Amah around the Ma'arachah where the Kohanim walked when they placed the Eivarim and Pedarim of the Korbanos on the Ma'arachah.

10. The division of the area in the Azarah was 11 Tefachim for non-Kohanim, 11 Tefachim for the Kohanim, 32 Amos for the Mizbe'ach, 22 Amos between the Mizbe'ach and the Ulam, 100 Amos for the Heichal, and 11 Amos for the area in back of the Beis ha'Kapores.
