SUMMARY

1. The Par of a Kohen Gadol is given precedence to be brought on the Mizbe'ach over the Par of the Edah.

2. A Par of the Edah is given precedence to be brought on the Mizbe'ach over a Par Avodah Zarah. A Chatas is given precedence over an Olah.

3. A Par Avodah Zarah is given precedence over the Sa'ir Avodah Zarah which is brought along with it.

4. The Sa'ir Avodah Zarah is brought before the Sa'ir of a Nasi. A Korban of the public is given precedence over the Korban of an individual.

5. There is a disagreement about which takes precedence, the Kisbah of a commoner or the Se'irah of a commoner.

6. A man is given precedence over a woman if he is in need of provisions or if he lost an object. A woman is given precedence if she is in need of clothing or if she was captured.

7. If a person is captured along with his Rebbi and his parents, the person should ransom his mother first, then himself, then his Rebbi, and then his father.

8. If the Segan Kohen Gadol and the Mashu'ach Milchamah are walking together and they come across a Mes Mitzvah, the Mashu'ach Milchamah shall be Metamei and not the Segan.

9. A Kohen is given precedence over a Levi, a Levi over a Yisrael, a Yisrael over a Mamzer, a Mamzer over a Nasin, a Nasin over a Ger, and a Ger comes before a freed servant.

10. Everyone must stand when a Nasi enters. They may not sit until he instructs them to do so.

11. When a Chacham enters, each person must stand up when the Chacham reaches him. He may sit down immediately after the Chacham passes.

A BIT MORE

1. The Par of a Kohen Gadol is given precedence because the Kohen Gadol atones for others while the Edah is atoned for by the Kohen Gadol.

2. Even a bird which is brought for a Chatas is given precedence over an animal which is brought for an Olah.

3. Although the Par Avodah Zarah is an Olah and the Sa'ir Avodah Zarah is a Chatas, the Torah teaches that in this case the Olah is brought first.

4. However, the Sa'ir of a Nasi is given precedence over the Se'irah of a commoner, because a Nasi has the status of a king. A king comes first.

5. According to one opinion, the Se'irah is given precedence because it is brought for the sin of Avodah Zarah. According to the other opinion, the Kisbah is given precedence because the Alyah of the Kisbah is brought on the Mizbe'ach.

6. However, if a man and a woman are in captivity together and they are in danger of being forced into promiscuity, the man is ransomed first if there is a danger of Mishkav Zachor.

7. If a Chacham is captured along with a king, a Kohen Gadol, and a Navi, the Chacham is given precedence to be ransomed before a king. This is because anyone is fit to become a king, while not everyone is fit to be a Chacham. A king is given precedence before a Kohen Gadol. A Kohen Gadol is given precedence over a Navi.

8. The Segan may not be Metamei because he is needed to replace the Kohen Gadol in the event that he becomes Pasul. However, if the Segan and the Mashu'ach Milchamah are both in need of provisions, the Mashu'ach Milchamah takes precedence because he is needed in the event of a war.

9. This order applies only if they are equal. If one of them is a Talmid Chacham, then even a Mamzer Talmid Chacham is given precedence over a Kohen Gadol who is an Am ha'Aretz.

10. When an Av Beis Din enters, there must be two rows standing up for him, one row on each side of him. The people may sit only after the Av Beis Din finds a seat.

11. The children of Talmidei Chachamim who were appointed leaders of the people may sit in front of their fathers with their backs to the people if they have enough Da'as to understand. If they do not have enough Da'as to understand, then they sit facing the people.
