SUMMARY

1. One is permitted to benefit from mountains or hills which were worshipped as an Avodah Zarah.

3. According to Rav Sheshes, there is a disagreement about whether a tree which was planted without intention to worship it and later it was worshipped as an Avodah Zarah is prohibited.

4. Everyone agrees that the main part of a tree, which was planted without intention to worship it, is permitted even if it was later worshipped as an Avodah Zarah.

5. When Klal Yisrael entered Eretz Yisrael, they were obligated to cut down all of the trees of Avodah Zarah before they captured the land.

6. When Klal Yisrael entered Eretz Yisrael, they destroyed the altars of Avodah Zarah before they captured the land.

A BIT MORE

1. One is permitted to plant on the mountain or to quarry stones there because something attached to the ground does not become prohibited.

2. According to the Tana Kama, if the mountain is coated with silver or gold, the coating is prohibited even though the mountain is permitted. According to Rebbi Yosi, the coating is Batel to the mountain and is permitted just like the mountain.

3. According to the Tana Kama, the tree is permitted. A tree is prohibited only if it was planted with intention to worship it as an Avodah Zarah. According to Rebbi Yosi, the tree is prohibited even if it was planted without intention to worship it and later was worshipped as an Avodah Zarah.

4. Even Rebbi Yosi bar Yehudah, who prohibits a tree which was planted without intention to worship it and later was worshipped as an Avodah Zarah, agrees in this case, agrees that only the part of the tree which grew after it was worshipped is prohibited.

5. The obligation to search for Avodah Zarah and root it out from of the land applied only after the land was conquered. Until then, it was sufficient to cut down the known trees of Avodah Zarah.

6. The obligation to burn the altars of Avodah Zarah applied only after the land was conquered.
