12TH CYCLE DEDICATIONS:

PESACHIM 6-10 - Two weeks of study material have been dedicated by Mrs. Estanne Abraham Fawer to honor the sixth Yahrzeit of her father, Reb Mordechai ben Eliezer Zvi (Rebbi Morton Weiner) Z'L, who passed away 18 Teves 5760. May the merit of supporting and advancing Dafyomi study, which was so important to him, during the weeks of his Yahrzeit serve as an Iluy for his Neshamah.

SUMMARY

1. If a Nochri owns part of one's herd of Kosher animals, the firstborn animals are not considered sanctified.

2. If a Nochri accepts money in place of his share in the flock, there is a dispute about whether the firstborn animals are sanctified.

3. If a Nochri owns part of a batch of dough that is also owned by a Jew, Chalah must be separated.

4. If Chametz is found in one's home on Yom Tov, he should place a vessel over it.

5. Even though a person checks to ensure that he has disposed of all of his Chametz before Pesach, he still must do Bitul Chametz.

A BIT MORE

1. This is derived from the verse, "All firstborn in Yisrael," which implies that if a Nochri owns a part of the firstborn animal, it does not become holy.

2. If he will not accept money in place of his share of animals, they are exempt.

3. Even though the Nochri insists on having some of the dough, and the Torah says that one must separate Chalah only from dough that is fully Jewish owned, people will not know that the dough is partially owned by a Nochri since this type of information does not circulate (as opposed to information about a partnership in very expensive items like animals). The Jew therefore must separate Chalah so that people will not mistakenly think that he is eating bread that is forbidden.

4. He may not move the Chametz, as it is Muktzah. He does not transgress the prohibition against seeing Chametz in his domain, since he already did Bitul Chametz before Pesach.

5. If a person does not do Bitul, we suspect that he will find an desirable piece of Chametz during Pesach and decide to keep it (see Rashi and Tosfos).
