12TH CYCLE DEDICATIONS:

PESACHIM 2-5 - Two weeks of study material have been dedicated by Mrs. Estanne Abraham Fawer to honor the sixth Yahrzeit of her father, Reb Mordechai ben Eliezer Zvi (Rebbi Morton Weiner) Z'L, who passed away 18 Teves 5760. May the merit of supporting and advancing Dafyomi study, which was so important to him, during the weeks of his Yahrzeit serve as an Iluy for his Neshamah.

SUMMARY

1. A Korban Shelamim sacrifice may not be eaten for more than one night.

2. One may not burn the leftover meat of the Shelamim during the second night.

3. The Gemara emphasizes that one should teach his student in a concise way, and one should always use clean language.

4. Rebbi Yehudah ben Beseirah stopped a Nochri from eating the Korban Pesach from afar.

5. One should avoid bearing bad tidings.

A BIT MORE

1. It may be eaten on the day that it is slaughtered and the following night and day, but not after the second day.

2. Rather, he may burn it only at daybreak on the third day. This is derived from the verse, "And the leftover. on the third day it shall be burned."

3. The Gemara cites an incident in which a Kohen who received part of the Lechem ha'Panim complained that he received an amount equivalent to the size of a lizard's tail. This unclean comparison caused the others to check into his status as a Kohen, and they found that there was a blemish in his lineage.

4. When a Nochri boasted to Rebbi Yehudah that he deceives the people each year into giving him some of the meat of the Korban Pesach, Rebbi Yehudah told him that the Jews in fact know that he is not Jewish and thus they do not give him the tail, which is the best part. When the Nochri went that year and demanded the tail because it is the best part, the people became suspicious, since all Jews know that one may not eat the tail of the Korban Pesach. They investigated his identity and found that he was a Nochri, and they killed him.

5. This is apparent from Rav Yehoshua, the son of Rav Idi, who did not want to report that Rav Kahana had died. Instead, he tore Keriyah and cried, implying that Rav Kahana had died without having to state it explicitly.
