A BIT MORE
1. Nakdimon borrowed twelve cisterns of water from a Nochri so that the people coming to the Beis ha'Mikdash for the festivals would have water to drink. A condition of the loan was that if the rain did not refill the Nochri's springs by a certain date, Nakdimon would have to pay him a large sum of money. 2. Rain immediately fell and filled up the twelve springs that filled the cisterns. 3. Nakdimon returned to the Beis ha'Mikdash and prayed that Hashem would show that there are people whom He loves in this world. Immediately, the clouds parted and the sun shone, showing that the day of payment had not yet passed. 4. This means that Yerushalayim is like a woman whose husband is overseas but has in mind to return to her. While she is currently like a widow, she does have a husband who will return to her. 5. Rav and Shmuel did not go under an unstable bridge in Neharde'a for thirteen years, even though it was a convenient shortcut. Once, when Rav saw that Rav Ada bar Ahavah was standing under the bridge, he told Shmuel that they could pass under it this time, because the merit of Rav Ada would protect them.
