SUMMARY

A BIT MORE
1. Rebbi Meir received Semichah from Rebbi Akiva, but it was not accepted because he was still young. He later received Semichah from Rebbi Yehudah Ben Bava.
2. A Chacham who received Semichah in Eretz Yisrael is permitted to judge Dinei Kenasos in Chutz la'Aretz because the Sanhedrin exists both in Eretz Yisrael and in Chutz la'Aretz.
3. Both the Rav and student must be in Eretz Yisrael in order for Semichah to be granted.
4. The family of Eli was cursed that all of its members would die young. The members of the family can extend their lives if they occupy themselves with Torah and Chesed, but even if they do achieve a longer life, they will never be granted Semichah.
5. According to Rebbi Yehudah, the Eglah Arufah procedure must be performed by five judges from the Sanhedri Gedolah. Rebbi Shimon maintains that only three judges are required for the procedure. Rebbi Eliezer ben Yakov has a third opinion: that the king, the Kohen Gadol and the entire Sanhedrin must participate.
6. The judges of the Sanhedrin must personally measure which city is closest to the body; they may not send agents in their place. Furthermore, the judges must measure the distances to the surrounding cities even if it is obvious which city is closest to the murder victim.
7. If the Sanhedri Gedolah left the Lishkas ha'Gazis in order to perform the measurement for the Eglah Arufah or in order to add on to Yerushalayim or the Azarah, a Chacham who defies them does not have a Din of a Zaken Mamrei.
8. If Ma'aser Sheni or Neta Reva'i becomes spoiled or sour, three expert merchants must appraise it to determine its value so that it can be redeemed. The appraisal may be conducted even if one of the merchants is a Nochri or the owner of the produce.
9. The Tana Kama maintains that movable Hekdesh items may be redeemed by a group of three people, and only Karka of Hekdesh requires ten people in order to be redeemed. Rebbi Eliezer ben Yakov maintains that any item of Hekdesh, even a small fork, can be redeemed only by a group of ten people.
