A BIT MORE
1. Each adult male who left Egypt received a portion in Eretz Yisrael. Even though they died, their descendants inherited these portions according to the rules of inheritance.
2. His sons also did not receive a portion (according to Rebbi Yoshiyah). He received a portion only if he inherited it from other relatives.
3. According to Rebbi Yonasan, if Reuven and Shimon left Egypt, and Reuven then had one son and Shimon then had ten sons, each son would receive one portion in Eretz Yisrael. According to Rebbi Yoshiyah (#1), Reuven's son would receive one portion and Shimon's ten sons would split one portion.
4. He understands that the portions were divided based on an accounting of everyone over 20 who left Egypt, and everyone over 20 when they entered Eretz Yisrael. Accordingly, a person received two portions if he was over 20 when he left Egypt and entered Eretz Yisrael.
