MENACHOS 101-103 - Dedicated by Andy and Nancy Neff in memory of Lucy Rabin, Leah Miriam bat Yisroel. Beloved mother of Nancy Neff, Valerie, Doug and Andy Rabin, and wife of Sidney Rabin, Lucy Rabin passed away on 14 Sivan 5767.

SUMMARY

1. One vowed to bring a Stam Minchah. At the time that he separated the flour for his Minchah, he vowed to bring a Minchas Marcheshes. He is not obligated to bring a Minchah Marcheshes.

2. If one vows to bring a Minchah from barley, from Kemach, or without oil and Levonah, or only half of an Isaron, he must bring a proper Minchah of an Isaron of Soles of wheat with oil and Levonah, according to the Tana Kama.

3. If one vows to bring a Minchah of an Isaron and a half, he must bring a Minchah of two Esronim. Rebbi Shimon maintains that he is Patur from bringing a Minchah.

4. If one says that he will be a Nazir from dates or figs, he becomes a Nazir, according to Beis Shamai. Beis Hillel disagrees.

5. If one vows to bring a Minchah from lentils, he is Patur from bringing a Minchah.

6. Ze'iri maintains that if one vows to bring a Minchah from barley, he is obligated to bring a Minchah only if he says that he will bring a "Minchah" of Se'orim, but not if he says a "Minchas" Se'orim.

7. If one vows to bring a Minchah of 60 Esronim, he brings it in one utensil, but if he vows to bring a Minchah of 61 Esronim, he brings it in two utensils.

8. Rebbi Yehudah maintains that a Minchah of 61 Esronim is not brought in one utensil, because an individual never brings a Minchah as large as the Tzibur's Minchah.

9. Rebbi Shimon maintains that the reason why an individual may not bring a Minchah of 61 Esronim is that it does not mix well with oil in one utensil.

10. All of the Midos of the Chachamim were given in an exacting manner.

A BIT MORE

1. Even if he brings a Minchas Machavas, he fulfills his Neder, because his statement at the time he separated the flour for his Minchah is not binding.

2. However, according to the Tana Kama, he is obligated to bring a Minchah only if he says, "Had I had known that a Minchah may be brought only with an Isaron of Soles from wheat with oil and Levonah, I would have made my Neder differently." However, if he asserts that had he known that his Neder did not constitute a valid Minchah, he would not have made a Neder at all, then he is Patur.

3. Fractions of an Isaron may not be brought for a Minchah. According to Rebbi Shimon, in all of these cases the person is Patur from bringing a Minchah because a person's final words are also taken into account.

4. According to Beis Shamai, a person's opening words are primary. Since he said that he will be a Nazir, he becomes an ordinary Nazir and he may not drink wine or eat grapes.

5. This is not comparable to one who vows to bring a Minchah from barley, who is obligated to bring a proper Minchah if he says, "Had known that a Minchah may be brought only from wheat I would have made a Neder to bring a proper Minchah." Everyone knows that a Minchah may not be brought from lentils, and thus it is assumed that he intended to bring a Minchah that is not permitted by the Torah.

6. If he says "Minchah," we assume that he meant to bring a proper Minchah, but if he says "Minchas" Se'orim, the word "Minchah" is connected to the word "Se'orim" and he likely did not intent to bring a proper Minchah.

7. He brings 60 Esronim in one Kli Shares, and one Isaron in a second Kli Shares.

8. On the first day of Sukos which falls on Shabbos, the Tzibur brings a total of 61 Esronim for the Minchos Nesachim for the many Korbanos which are brought on that day. An individual is not supposed to bring as much as the Tzibur does, according to Rebbi Yehudah.

9. A Minchah that is not mixed is valid. However, in order to be valid it must be fit to be mixed. If it is not fit to be mixed, it is Pasul.

10. A Mikvah is valid with 40 Se'ah of water and not one Kortov less. Food the size of an egg is Metamei Tum'as Ochlin, but not one sesame less. A garment the size of three by three Tefachim is not Metamei if it is missing even one thread.
