SUMMARY

1. A Ger Toshav is someone who committed himself not to worship Avodah Zarah in front of three Talmidei Chachamim.

2. If after twelve months a Ger Toshav has not yet undergone a Bris Milah he is regarded as a heretic.

3. If a Yisrael was hired by a Nochri to work for the day, and towards evening he was asked to transport a barrel of Yayin Nesech, his wages are permitted.

4. If a Yisrael was hired by a Nochri to transport barrels for a Perutah each, the wages are permitted even if one of the barrels is found to be a barrel of Yayin Nesech.

5. If a Yisrael was hired to transport a hundred barrels of wine for a hundred Perutos, the wages are forbidden if one of the barrels is found to be a barrel of Yayin Nesech.

6. If a Yisrael hired out his donkey for a Nochri to ride on, the wages are permitted even if the Nochri placed his jug of wine on the donkey.

7. When one hires a donkey driver, he has the right to bring along clothing and sufficient food and drink for the entire trip.

8. The donkey driver has the right only to bring barley and straw for the animal and enough provisions for the first day.

9. If Yayin Nesech spills on grapes, they must be washed, and then they are permitted.

10. If Yayin Nesech spills on dates or figs, if the wine gives taste to the fruit they are forbidden.

11. If wine spills on wheat, it must be made into bread and sold to a Nochri not in the presence of a Yisrael.

12. If a garment was sewn with a thread of Kil'ayim and the thread cannot be found, the garment may not be sold to a Nochri or draped on a donkey. It may be used for shrouds for a Mes Mitzvah.

A BIT MORE

1. This is in accordance with Rebbi Meir who says that once a Ger Toshav makes a commitment not to worship Avodah Zarah it is a Mitzvah to provide for him if he is in need. However, regarding sending a gift to him on the holiday of an Avodah Zarah, a person is regarded as a Ger Toshav if he does not worship Avodah Zarah even without making a commitment.

2. However, he is regarded as a heretic only if he committed himself to undergo a Bris Milah within twelve months and he failed to do so.

3. Since he had already completed the day's work at the time that he transported the Yayin Nesech, the wages are not for transporting the barrel of Yayin Nesech.

4. He may accept the wages for the transportation of the other barrels, but he should refuse the Peruath for the barrel of Yayin Nesech, or throw the Perutah in the sea.

5. All of his wages are forbidden, because they depend on his transporting all one hundred barrels. Since one of the barrels is Yayin Nesech, all of the wages are considered wages for Yayin Nesech.

6. The Nochri has the right to place his jug on the donkey, since the amount of rent he pays would not be deducted if he did not place his jug on the donkey. The rent that is paid is not considered an exchange for Yayin Nesech.

7. If there are many places along the way to buy food and drink, the driver may prevent the passenger from bringing food and drink with him. If there are only infrequent places where food and drink are available, the passenger has the right to bring food and drink since he is not in the habit of buying food on the road.

8. If food is not available along the way, he may bring sufficient food for the entire trip. If there are frequent places to buy food along the way, he may not bring food, even for that day. Where there are only infrequent places where food and drink are available, the driver may bring only enough food for that day since he is in the habit of buying food on the road.

9. If the grapes are cracked, they are forbidden.

10. However, if the wine spilled on dried figs, they are permitted even if enough wine spilled to give taste to the figs, since the wine gives an adverse taste to the figs.

11. The wheat may not be eaten, and therefore it may not be sold to a Nochri without first making it into bread. There is a concern that the Nochri will sell the wheat to a Yisrael who will not be aware that it is forbidden. If it is baked into bread, a Yisrael will not buy it from a Nochri, since it is forbidden to eat the bread of a Nochri.

12. It may not be sold to a Nochri because of the concern that the Nochri will sell it to a Yisrael who will not be aware that it is Kil'ayim.
