SUMMARY

1. Although it is possible to check whether Techeles is genuine, one may purchase Techeles only from an expert.

2. One may buy a garment with Tzitzis from a Yisrael or Nochri merchant without concern that it is Pasul, but not from a Nochri who is not a merchant.

3. One may not sell a garment with Tzitzis to Nochri unless he first removes Tzitzis.

4. Rebbi says that a blessing must be recited every time one puts on his Tzitzis.

5. According to the Tana Kama, women are obligated to wear Tzitzis. Rebbi Shimon disagrees, because it is a time-bound Mitzvas Aseh.

6. Kohanim are obligated to wear Tzitzis despite the fact that the Torah juxtaposes the Mitzvah of Tzitzis with the prohibition of Sha'atnez, which does not apply to the Kohanim in the Beis ha'Mikdash.

7. A blind man's four cornered garment is obligated to have Tzitzis.

8. A three-cornered garment is exempt from Tzitzis, but a five-cornered garment is obligated.

9. The earliest time for Keri'as Shema in the morning is when there is enough light to discern the difference in color between Techeles and white.

10. The Mitzvah of Tzitzis is equal to all of the Mitzvos of the Torah.

11. Rebbi Shimon bar Yochai says that anyone who observes the Mitzvah of Tzitzis diligently will merit to greet the presence of the Shechinah.

12. Rebbi Meir says that Hashem commanded us to wear Techeles because it has the appearance of the sea, which has the appearance of the heaven, which has the appearance of the Throne of Honor.

13. Rebbi Meir says that one is obligated to recite one hundred blessings every day.

A BIT MORE

1. There is a concern that the Tzitzis were dyed with Techeles as a test to determine whether the dye is good, and thus it was not dyed l'Shem Mitzvah. Therefore, it may be purchased only from an expert who knows that Techeles must be dyed Lishmah.

2. A Nochri merchant will not say that he bought it from a Yisrael when he did not, because he does not want his customers to lose trust in him. A Nochri who is not a merchant, who has no customers to lose, is not believed if he says that he bought it from a Yisrael. There is a concern that he dyed the Techeles himself, and thus it was done she'Lo Lishmah and is Pasul.

3. In Bavel, they explained that the reason is the concern that the Nochri will act immorally with a Jewish Zonah who will think that he is a Yisrael as a result of his possession of the Tzitzis. Rav Yehudah says that the concern is that the Nochri will accompany a Yisrael on the road, and the Yisrael will think he is a Jew because of his Tzitzis. The Yisrael will not guard himself from the Nochri who might kill him.

4. However, if one did not remove his Tzitzis at night, he does not recite a blessing in the morning, according to the opinion that the night is a time for Tzitzis.

5. According to the Tana Kama, the Mitzvah of Tzitzis applies also at night, and therefore it is not a time-bound Mitzvas Aseh. Hence, even women are obligated. According to Rebbi Shimon, the Mitzvah of Tzitzis does not apply at night, and thus women are exempt.

6. The Avnet of the Bigdei Kohanim is made from a mixture of wool and linen, which is Sha'atnez. However, since the prohibition of Sha'atnez is suspended only during the Avodah, the Mitzvah of Tzitzis applies to the Kohanim as well.

7. Rebbi Shimon, who maintains that the night is not a time for Tzitzis, rules that a blind man is obligated to wear Tzitzis.

8. A five-cornered garment is obligated in Tzitzis because five includes four, but a three-cornered garment is exempt because three does not include four.

9. According to Rebbi Eliezer, the time for Keri'as Shema in the morning is when it is possible to discern between Techeles and green.

10. When one looks at his Tzitzis, he is reminded of the Mitzvos. When one is reminded of the Mitzvos, he will perform the Mitzvos.

11. Rebbi Eliezer ben Yakov says that one who wears Tefilin on his head and arm, Tzitzis on his garments, and has a Mezuzah on his doorpost is assured that he will not sin.

12. Rebbi Meir says one who fails to wear the white strings of Tzitzis is punished in a greater way than one who fails to wear the Techeles strings, because the white strings are easier and cheaper to attain than the Techeles strings.

13. On Shabbos and Yom Tov, when a shortened Shemoneh Esreh is recited, the missing blessings are to be made up with spices and delicacies.
