ERCHIN 17 - Two weeks of study material have been dedicated by Mrs. Estanne Abraham Fawer to honor the twelfth Yahrzeit of her father, Rav Mordechai ben Eliezer Zvi (Rabbi Morton Weiner) Z'L, who passed away on 18 Teves 5760. May the merit of supporting and advancing Dafyomi study -- which was so important to him -- during the weeks of his Yahrzeit serve as an Iluy for his Neshamah. |

SUMMARY
1. There is a discussion about the temperament of a leader and his generation.
2. Tana Kama: There is a difference between the evaluation of a person's pledge when he pledges someone else's fixed value, and when he pledges to offer the same Korban that another person is bringing.
3. Rebbi Meir: There is no such difference (#2) between these different types of pledges.
4. There is a dispute about a person who was poor when he made the pledge, became rich, and became poor again by the time that he pays.
5. There is a dispute about how the fluctuating Korban of a Metzora is determined.

A BIT MORE
1. One opinion says that if the leader of the generation has an easygoing or angry manner, the people under his leadership will have a similar tendency. The other opinion says that if the people are easygoing or angry, the leader will have a similar tendency.
2. If he pledges to offer a fixed value, he will pay the discounted rate of a poor person if he is poor, even if he pledged to donate the fixed value of someone who is rich. However, if a rich person is obligated to offer a Korban Metzora (which fluctuates based on one's wealth), and a poor person pledges to offer a Korban similar to the one that the rich Metzora offers, he must offer the sacrifice of a rich Metzora (and not that of a poor Metzora).
3. If a poor person overhears a rich person pledge his fixed value and then the poor person says, "I pledge what he pledged," he must give the amount given by the rich person. He does not receive the discounted rate of a poor person.
4. Tana Kama: He receives the discounted rate. Rebbi Yehudah: He does not receive the discounted rate. This is derived from a verse that says that the only person entitled to the discounted rate is someone who is poor from the time of his pledge until he pays it.
5. Rebbi Shimon: If he is poor when he offers his Chatas, the rest of his Korbanos of Metzora may be brought as if he is poor. Rebbi Yehudah: If he is poor when he offers his Asham, the rest of his Korbanos of Metzora may be brought as if he poor. Rebbi Eliezer ben Yakov: If he is poor when he offers his birds, the rest of his Korbanos of Metzora may be brought as if he poor.
