DAF DISCUSSIONS - CHULIN 53

Mitchell A. Morgenstern asks:

Gemoro 53B - five lines form bottom. D'rusa when the flesh reddens opposite the viscera - the vital internal organs. Is this the entire flesh (my guess is after we skin the animal) or is it just one spot?

The Bnei m'ayin means around the two sides and bottom and not the top. Because the top has the vertebra and top of rib cage, which are solid?

The Kollel replies:

Dear Mitchell,

Even one red spot shows that poison exists. Since it is opposite the area of vital organs, it is a Tereifah now because the poison will definitely penetrate to a vital organ, and the animal is called "about to die" (Teshuvos ha'Rashba #1546).

"Bnei Me'ayim" are the internal organs themselves, and Rashi (DH Tzericha Livdok) says to check the flesh on all sides including its back (top!), "Gabah, Kereisah, v'Tzidehah."

All the best,
