DAF DISCUSSIONS - ZEVACHIM 46

Gershon Dubin asked:

One of the six things that a korban needs is "leshem ishim", which the Gemara explains, and not "kevava". Rashi explains this means pieces of meat roasted on the coals.

Sounds like kebab, doesn't it? Any relation?

The Kollel replies:

There probably is a relation, but we do not know. The word "kebab" (or, more accurately, "kabob"), which refers to cubes of meat marinated and cooked with various vegetables on a skewer, is based on the same word in the Arabic and Persian languages, and thus it is possibly related to the Aramaic word used by the Gemara here.
