R. Yanai and R. Yochanan were sitting together. R. Yehuda Nesiya came and asked them - what do we learn from the pasuk (Bamidbar 36:8), "And any daughter who inherits from tribes"?

They answered: We compare the father's tribe with the mother's tribe. Just as for the father's tribe, the son precedes the daughter, so for the mother's tribe, the son precedes the daughter.

Question: Or perhaps it is the opposite - just as for inheriting the mother, the son and daughter are equal; so too for inheriting the father, the son and daughter should be equal?

Rejection (R. Yochanan): We can see from here that this person does not want to learn Torah (as he does not accept what we said).
